Dubai has taken a major step towards transforming urban mobility by partnering with Joby Aviation for an all‑electric air taxi service, slated to launch in 2026. Earlier this week, Joby demonstrated its eVTOL (electric vertical take‑off and landing) aircraft in a test flight over the emirate, showcasing its capability to fly up to 160 km at speeds of 320 km/h.

The service aims to significantly reduce travel times—for instance, cutting a typical flight between Dubai International Airport and Palm Jumeirah to just 12 minutes, compared to a 45‑minute drive. Initially focused on premium riders, the program has ambitions to expand access over time and will be supported by a six‑year exclusive agreement with Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority. Four vertiports are planned at key locations: DXB, Palm, Downtown, and Marina. While the project promises quiet and eco‑friendly travel, analysts caution regulatory hurdles and infrastructure readiness could pose challenges.
